CSER 310-001: NEW STUDENT SEMINAR ASSISTANT

New Student Seminar is a class designed to facilitate academic, spiritual and social development, the understanding of ethics and values within a Christian university setting and provide interaction between faculty and students which establishes high academic expectations.

CSER workers are asked to interact with new students and their families in a way that provides reassurance during the first two to three days that the student is on campus. They will be asked to complete any organizational/administrative work necessary to prepare for the successful implementation of FRSM101 each semester (including supply preparation, classroom preparation, etc). They will direct students to classroom locations, answer basic questions about the course, and assist FRSM 101 instructors/elective presenters as needed.

CSER 315-001: LIBERTY ASSOCIATION OF CHRISTIAN TEACHERS

The Liberty University Association of Christian Teachers is a service ministry of the Liberty University School of Education and is under the supervision of Education faculty members. The purpose of the organization is to provide a service opportunity for elementary and secondary education students in the schools and communities in which they serve. In order to receive Christian/Community Service credit, students must meet the required hours in a special project, such as Teacher Recruitment or the Summer Homestay Program.

CSER 321-001: CAREER CENTER

Career Ambassadors are peer educators who volunteer in the Liberty University Career Center to inform students about Career Center services and events. They assist in the support, coordination and facilitation of outreach programs (events, workshops, manning information booths, etc.). The student is required to attend an informational meeting in the Career Center at the beginning of the semester to receive information regarding all event opportunities they can help with (e.g. job fairs, CFAW weekends, etc.). Students volunteering with the Career Center will have the opportunity to gain networking contacts and develop professional skills.

CSER 321-002: WASHINGTON SEMESTER

Students can also volunteer specifically to promote the Washington Semester Fellowship by manning an informational booth throughout the semester. There is also an opportunity to assist the Washington Semester Fellowship Recruiter by briefly speaking in classroom presentations to assist in promoting this internship program to students of all majors. Students will share their own experiences of their semester in Washington and will participate in recruiting events with the Career Center.

Teacher candidates who register for Christian/Community Service during student teaching will: Identify a project for Christian Community Service credit that includes at least 20 hours of volunteer activities above the 300 hours required for student teaching (the hours completed for CSER credit cannot be used for academic credit, scholarship, or monetary compensation). Examples of appropriate projects: volunteer tutoring after school, volunteer assistance to the Cooperating teacher or cooperating school. The project should not consist of regular student teaching duties. Candidates will sign up for CSER 331 or 332 (CSER 331-001 for elementary or CSER 332-001 for secondary).

CSER 354-001: TUTORING CLUB

The Tutoring Club of Liberty University allows elementary education students to provide a service to the community. Children in grades K-8 come to the campus to be tutored in the content areas of reading, writing or mathematics. The purpose of the Tutoring Club is to provide an opportunity for the School of Education teacher candidates to gain practical teaching experience while meeting the needs of children who require remediation or enrichment. Christian/Community service workers are responsible for the management of the program; duties include checking attendance of tutors and clients, organizing tutorial resources and other administrative and paperwork tasks. Help as needed on Monday or Tuesday from 3:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

CSER 361-001: GRADUATE WRITING CENTER

Students completing their CSER requirement at Liberty's Graduate Writing Center will serve as conversation partners and classroom helpers for Liberty graduate students learning English as a foreign language. Volunteers are needed for up to five conversation partners for individuals and groups in the GWC (most are Koreans).

Students who volunteer in this capacity will do a tremendous service to Liberty's large Korean student population. In addition, they will have the benefit of conversing with and getting to know godly Christ-seekers from another culture. Native English speakers are preferred, but students from any major are welcome. TESL is particularly encouraged.

CSER 370-001: CENTER FOR JUDAIC STUDIES

The Center for Judaic Studies, directed by Dr. Randall Price, provides the means for students preparing for Christian ministry or service preparing for Christian ministry or service to gain a biblical perspective of the Jewish mission and help equip the Church in making a biblical response to the Jewish people and the modern State of Israel. A special purpose is to provide instruction to students at the undergraduate level and especially to prepare graduate students for Jewish ministries and academic careers in the field of Judaic Studies and Biblical Archeology. The Center for Judaic Studies is part of the Liberty Theological Seminary.

Service opportunities include librarian, photographer, catalog ancient artifacts and museum pieces, biblical and archaeological research.

CSER 372-001: COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the education success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and talents.  Liberty CEC provides students the opportunity to participate in service opportunities that benefit the families and children with disabilities within our community.  Specific opportunities include, but are not limited to: Kids Karnival (TRBC); iKids (TRBC); Easter egg hunt with TRBC; Breakfast with Santa (TRBC); Valentines party (TRBC); or Polar Plunge (Special Olympics).

CSER 393-001: BRUCKNER LEARNING CENTER
Students may work in one of three areas in the Bruckner Learning Center. The three areas include general office help in the Bruckner Learning Center, peer tutoring in Tutoring Services, or office help in Testing Services. Students may work in one area or all three areas as needed.

Volunteer opportunities include working the front desk, working in the resource room distributing and re-shelving CD's, books, and DVD's and helping individual faculty members. Students may also perform filing and computer work for the center.

Tutoring Services – peer tutoring

There are three areas available for CSER with Tutoring Services. You can serve as a tutor, reader, or study buddy. A tutor must have an overall GPA of 3.0, a B or better in any subject he/she wishes to tutor, a desire to help his/her peers and the ability to explain course material clearly. A reader works with special needs students. He/she must haves a flexible schedule, good reading skills, and a desire to help his/her peers. A study buddy is an academic mentor and sets up his/her own schedule to meet with a student needing assistance.

Testing Services – office help

Since Testing Services is a very busy service-oriented office, workers must be dependable, friendly and able to multi-task. A minimum service of 20 hours is required, spread out through the semester, including finals, since finals week is one of our busiest times. Hours past 20 are encouraged and appreciated. Duties may include administering tests, proctoring in the testing area and general office work.
