Churches in the Lynchburg area

The church extension ministry encompasses all students who work in churches other than Thomas Road Baptist Church. The church you wish to serve in must be of similar faith, philosophy and practice to the doctrinal position of Liberty University. A student must fill out a Church Extension Application which must be returned to the Christian/Community Service Office for approval.

How may a CSER be fulfilled through a church or religious organization outside of TRBC?
Should a student wish to do this, they must apply through the CSER office. Prior approval is mandatory for any organization to be recognized as a valid CSER site. In these cases, there must also be strict adherence to the following additional criteria:

  1. The student is expected to respect the doctrinal and ethical positions of Liberty University.
  2. The CSER Office may request a doctrinal statement from the prospective church/organization if there are any questions with regard to its doctrinal position. Any church or religious organization that is considered by the University to be outside the stream of traditional, evangelical orthodoxy, as articulated in the University's doctrinal statement, will not be permitted as a valid CSER site.
  3. The student must complete and return a special application supplied by the Christian/Community Service Office. It is the student's responsibility to complete this application and return it with the appropriate signatures.


This falls under the area of Church Extension and requires special application.
The required paperwork for signing up to work with another local church is available in the CSER Office.

CSER 282-001: PERSONAL MINISTRY

This CSER allows students to participate in TRBC ministries that are not pre-approved TRBC ministries.  A student must fill out a Personal Ministry Application which must be returned to the Christian/Community Service Office for approval.
