Coaching

The Undergraduate Writing Center aims to develop undergraduate writing proficiency through one-on-one coaching sessions. Writing coaches work with students in 30-minute sessions in order to teach writing skills instead of simply editing the text. Writing coaches help students:

  • Polish/learn the technical aspects of writing (grammar, punctuation, etc.)
  • Organize and present good research
  • Refine academic writing and thought

Please note that the Undergraduate Writing Center is not a proofreading or drop-off service. Walk-ins are welcome, but if you want to be sure that someone will be available for a coaching session, please call or email to make an appointment at least two days in advance. Please be sure to bring an unmarked copy of your paper with you to your appointment.

Coaching Appointment Requests

If you are visiting for an ENGL 100 workshop, please see the directions below.

1. Begin by visiting CASAS's appointment request page

2. If you have not registered with LUNetwork, you may be asked some questions. Once finished, either go to the home page and click on "Request an Appointment" on the right or use the CASAS appointment request page link

3. From the options available, choose only a tutoring appointment type that is with the "Undergraduate Writing Center." From there, specify time and date to choose your appointment.

4. When you choose a coach who is available at your time, please choose a random coach and not necessarily the one at the top of the list (though that coach is available also).

Note: If a situation not mentioned here occurs, come back to this page and re-click the link. If that doesn't help, please email us, and we'll help you out directly.

ENGL 100 Workshop Appointment Requests

1. Begin by visiting CASAS's workshop event page

2. If you have not registered with LUNetwork, you may be asked some questions. Once finished, either click "Events" and then "Workshops" or use the CASAS workshop event page link

3. From there, search for an "ENGL 100" workshop and choose a time that best suits you. Look at the titles and choose either a grammar or a thesis/content workshop. If there is no workshop available, we usually open them 10-14 days before a paper is due.

Note: If a situation not mentioned here occurs, come back to this page and re-click the link. If that doesn't help, please email us, and we'll help you out directly.
