President - Tyler Cypher
"Greetings! It is my immense pleasure to introduce someone I have personally known for my entire life, myself, Tyler Cypher. The honor of serving as your President has been bestowed upon me. I have trained and acquired most of my skills in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. I specialize in the computational sciences, although I like many possible fields of study. This will be my fourth year in "The Spirit of the Mountain" Marching Band wielding the instrument of God: the trumpet. Besides the Marching Band, I perform in the Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble here at Liberty. When I’m not furthering my abilities on the trumpet or on the computer, I enjoy defeating my foes in volleyball and soccer (challengers welcomed, but beware!). I also enjoy watching movies, playing any kind of game, and discovering new ways to do embarrassing things in public. I’m very excited to see what this year has in store!"
Vice President - Abby Summers
"Hello! My name is Abby Summers and I am MORE THAN EXCITED to serve as your vice president! I am a business administration major with a cognate in project management (and LOVING IT). I am originally from central Ohio, but I am so delighted to spend these next couple years in Virginia. It's hard to believe that I am already a junior, making this my third year marching mellophone with the Spirit of the Mountain, and my third year playing horn with the Wind Symphony. When I am not in rehearsal, you can catch me at the library with a trenta green tea from Starbucks, or some other obnoxious drink! Basically, what you need to know about my passions is that they are Jesus, coffee, cats and tea (in that order). I hope more than anything that the Lord blesses you this year as much as I feel blessed to be serving you. Fan the Flames!"
Chaplain - Caleb Martin
"Hello band friends! My name is Caleb Martin, and I have the joy and honor to serve you all again this year as band chaplain for the Liberty University Marching Band, “The Spirit of the Mountain,” and the Liberty University Wind Symphony. I have played alto sax the past three years in Marching Band and have had the privilege to spend two and a half years being a part of the Wind Symphony. I am in my senior year as a Instrumental Music major and plan on continuing to get a Masters of Arts in Teaching. It is my calling and passion to be a high school and collegiate band director. Whenever I am not playing music and studying, you can find me playing and watching sports, and spending time with family and friends. God has blessed me in my time here and in these two amazing groups. I pray that we will not only enjoy our time together in fellowship and using our crafts to make music, but to bless you as well and really grow together in Christ and perform for his glory!"
Secretary/Treasurer - Morgan Davis
"Hello fellow band members! My name is Morgan Davis, and I am super excited to serve as your secretary/treasurer this year! I am a senior from NC majoring in Instrumental Music Education. Flute is my primary instrument, but you can find me in the music building practicing a lot of other instruments as well. Besides Marching Band, I am also a member of Wind Symphony, Flute Ensemble, and University Band. When I'm not doing something music related, I enjoy things like reading, coloring, binge watching YouTube videos, playing LoZ, and pretending I'm good at volleyball. I'm excited to meet you all, and I'm looking forward to a great season!"
Social Media - Karah Rushing
"Hi friends! My name is Karah Rushing, and I am excited to serve the band this year as the social media officer! This will be my second year marching in the piccolo section. I am pursuing a degree in instrumental music education, primarily because I can think of no other way I’d want to spend my future than by teaching little people how to make loud noises with metal objects, and teaching them what it means for their music to be a sweet sound in the ears of Jesus! A few of my favorite things include spending time with my incredible friends and family, dancing (I’m primarily a ballet/lyrical girl- but I also have a lot of fun in a pair of tap shoes), all things musical theatre, and Disney World- which I have been blessed to grow up with because I am from Clearwater, Florida! I’m always up for swing dancing on Friday nights, seeing all of the incredible musicals performed here at Liberty, and Disney movie nights (Tangled is my all-time favorite)! I am beyond excited to spend this marching band season growing closer to each and every one of you- God is going to move in incredible ways and we will all make memories that will last a lifetime! I love band!"
Psalm 108:1- “My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul.”
Christian Service - Sam Thrasher
"Hello everyone! My name is Sam Thrasher and I am very excited to serve as your Christian Service officer this year in “The Spirit of the Mountain.” I will be a sophomore this year studying Music Education. This will be my second year in this marching band, in which I play baritone, even though I am a trombone player. In addition to being in marching band, I also spent last year in the LU Wind Symphony and the LU Symphony Orchestra. Outside of band, I enjoy hanging out with friends, doing magic, and watching Netflix (especially “The Office”). I cannot wait for this season to start, and I am excited to see what God has in store for us this year!"
Head Field Commander - Christian Salyer
"Hi there! My name is Christian Salyer and I will be serving as Head Field Commander this fall for “The Spirit of the Mountain” Marching Band here at Liberty University. I will be continuing my studies as a Junior pursuing a Music Education degree with Clarinet as my primary instrument. This will be my third year in the Liberty University Marching Band as I had a blast being a part of the Clarinet section my freshman year and even more fun as the assistant to the assistant Drum Major last year. This upcoming season is going to be a BLAST! Myself, fellow Drum Majors, Officers, Staff, and Directors are all working very hard to make sure that your experience in "The Spirit of the Mountain" is one that challenges you both on the field and spiritually. God has given us this fantastic opportunity to build one another up through the great activity of marching band and we are going to take advantage of it! A few fun factoids about me: I love baseball, basketball, drum corps, and wiffleball. I am also an avid Jimmy John's and rollercoaster enthusiast. I look forward to seeing you in the fall!"
Field Commander - Drew Jordan
"Hey y'all! My name is Drew Jordan and I am so excited to be one of the field commanders for you this fall. This will be my third year with "The Spirit of the Mountain" and my ninth year in marching band all together. I am from a small town in the middle of nowhere called Brookneal, Virginia. I am a biology major, and I my primary instrument is Horn. I love playing tennis, swimming, and chilling outside during the summer. I can't wait for the opportunity to meet each of you and to get to know you. I know we are going to have a great season and God is going to do great things."
Field Commander - Felicity Jenkins
"Hi! My name is Felicity Jenkins, and I will be serving as one of your field commanders this fall! I'm so excited for this opportunity to serve God and to serve the band. I am a sophomore Music Education Major from Kitts Hill, OH, and my primary instrument is the saxophone. I hope to work as a high school band director, then at the collegiate level, eventually. This will be my eighth year of marching band overall, and my second at Liberty. In addition to the marching band, I play tenor sax in the Wind Symphony and I am a member of Liberty's Quiz Bowl Team. I absolutely love reading, playing piano, dresses, watching Netflix (mainly The Office and Grey's Anatomy), hanging out with friends, and taking pictures in front of red doors. Most importantly, I love Jesus and I love serving Him. I can't wait to see all the great things God will do through the Spirit of the Mountain Marching Band this year!"
Back Field Commander-Aliza Nogueras
"Hi friends! My name is Aliza, and I am honored and privileged to be serving you as one of the field commanders for “The Spirit of the Mountain.” This fall will commence my second year at LU majoring in Elementary Education, and minoring in music. My primary instrument is the flute, and I had a wonderful experience last fall marching piccolo. Along with marching band, I am blessed to be a part of the Wind Symphony as well as the flute ensemble at Liberty. Aside from band, I was born in the gorgeous Island of Puerto Rico, lived in various parts of Florida, and now I am thankful to call Lynchburg, Virginia home. I love spending time with family and friends while sipping on strawberry acai refreshers from Starbucks. I have a passion for football and cheering on the Indianapolis Colts (best team ever, I know!) and watching shows like Last Man Standing (best show ever, I know!). The most important thing I’d like to stress is how great God has been to my family and I. Jesus Christ is my Savior, and I am overwhelmed by His presence in my life and His presence in this marching band. I look forward to glorifying His name with you all this season!"
