Commercial Music and Worship Camp - Summer 2018

The Liberty University School of Music Commercial Music and Worship Camp is available to students in grades 9-12 with interest in Songwriting, Film Scoring, Artist Development, or Recording Engineering and students who love to worship through singing or playing an instrument are invited to attend.

What to Expect

At camp, you will explore Biblical worship, worship leading, improvisation, and music theory, as well as “hands-on” training in Commercial Music techniques. Students will work with industry leaders in crafting song, scoring for film, artist presentation, or recording engineering. Each student will also be assigned to a praise team and receive daily group coaching, both as a team and individually, in vocal and instrumental sectionals. As a participant of the Commercial Music and Worship Camp you can also request private instruction for your individual discipline: voice, piano, guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, or percussion (see details for private lessons).

All students will join in a mixed choral ensemble to learn the principles of choral worship-leading techniques.

  • Campers should have at least one year of musical instruction or the equivalent.
  • Piano students are required to have at least two years of private instruction.
  • Students selecting songwriting or film scoring should have some experience in writing or arranging music and be prepared to present samples of their work.

Commercial Music and Worship Camp Auditions

Each camper must submit an online audition video prior to arriving at camp. All campers should perform two solo selections on this video. Instrumentalists must also perform two scales of your choice. For those students with a focus in Songwriting or Film Scoring, please submit a sample of your original work. Our desire is to get to know you and your giftings! Memorization is welcome, but not required.

Performance Opportunities

The Commercial Music Camp holds two performances on the final day of camp, which are open to the public. Parents and relatives are encouraged to attend.

Saturday Performances

Each student will participate in a morning worship program with their camp teams. The time of presentation will be established during the week of camp after students have been placed in their worship team. Following lunch, all campers will come together for one joint presentation.
