Scott Stone From my early childhood, I always wanted to be a pilot. All of my family is involved in the aviation business. My dad and brother are both pilots for TWA/American Airlines and my mom is a flight attendant for United Airlines.

I started flying when I was ten years old with my father who was my flight instructor. It was great being able to spend our time together doing something we both loved. I soloed on my 16th birthday, and went on to earn my private, instrument, commercial, and multi-engine ratings in the years that followed.

I chose Liberty University because I wanted to go somewhere where I could get a solid education and also build my faith as a Christian. Attending Liberty was one of the best decisions of my life, as it gave me the skills to impact the airlines for Christ. The aviation classes at Liberty were a great tool to sharpen my technical skills and they equipped me to be a safer and more competent pilot.

After graduating in 2001 with a major in Business Marketing and an Aviation minor, I am currently working for Chautaqua Airlines (US Air Express) flying as a Captain on the Embraer 145 Regional Jet . . . and loving every minute of it.

Rick Summey I started in the Aviation program at Liberty University during my first semester in 1987. This was only months after my first airplane flight on my high school senior trip to Orlando, Florida. My first small plane ride was in a Cessna 172, Tail Number N737WS with a student who later became my Liberty flight instructor.

I loved flying and, with the help of student loans, was able to fly a little every week. By the time I graduated, I had earned my multi-engine commercial rating. After graduation, I continued as a Lineman at the Lynchburg airport and flew co-pilot with several corporate pilot friends. The bug had bitten me- I loved the thought of being a corporate pilot. I eventually got my CFI, CFII, and MEI to build time. In 1996, I got my first corporate job as a co-pilot on a Cheyenne II. I have now progressed to being a Citation and King Air Captain for a Christian corporate group in Raleigh, NC.

Liberty University was a great start to my career, but even more the building blocks for my entire adult life. In my opinion, flying is the greatest career that one can have. No one else can say that they saw the sun rise from their office window at 31,000 feet. No matter how high I get on flying, life is a challenge and the values taught at Liberty and my personal walk with Jesus Christ can conquer all!
