About the Center

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Center for Music Education and Performance is to provide opportunities for academic study and training for students in various areas of Music Performance and Education.

The Center achieves its purpose for music and music education by providing comprehensive training in music for those preparing for music careers (leading to a B. M. degree in choral and instrumental music with or without teacher licensure) as well as for those who wish to receive music training on an elective basis.

School of Music and Performing ArtsCentral to the Center's purpose is the development of aesthetically sensitive musicians, ministers of music, and music educators who, with their skills, knowledge, and professional attitudes, may glorify God in the world through the practice of their craft and the testimony of their lives. Additionally, the Center seeks to provide academic study and training in the four areas for those wishing to pursue these arts as minor areas of study and to provide satisfying musical experiences to students across the university curriculum.

Achievements, Facts, and Opportunities

In recent years, about 1/3 of Liberty University Bachelor of Music graduates have been admitted to Masters programs, many meriting teaching assistantships.  Liberty graduates have been accepted at the Eastman School of Music, New England Conservatory, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, the University of South Carolina at Columbia, and Temple University, to name just a few.

A piano performance student won the state competition of the MTNA Young Artist Competition in the fall, 2008.
