Application Guidelines
Admission Standards
Three types of students are eligible for admission to the Honors Program: recent high school graduates, college transfers, and current Liberty University students. Listed below are the admission requirements for each type of student.
High School Seniors
- Score at least 1270 on the SAT (verbal & math scores only, not writing sample) or 29 on the ACT.
- Send official transcripts to the Honors Office indicating a high school GPA of 3.50 or above on a 4.0 scale (unweighted).
- Rank in the top 10 percent of one's high school class.
- Write an expository essay of four and one half to five typed pages on the topic "What I Hope to Gain from an Honors Program Education at Liberty University."
- Submit 3 letters of recommendation from present or former faculty members (high school teachers).
- Complete both Honors Vita & Honors application forms.
Transfer Students
- Apply to enter the program no later than the spring semester of the freshman year.
- Send official college transcripts indicating a 3.50 or above on a 4.0 scale to the Honors Office.
- Write an expository essay of four and one half to five typed pages on the topic "What I Hope to Gain from an Honors Program Education at Liberty University."
- Submit 3 letters of recommendation from present or former faculty members.
- Complete both Honors Vita & Honors application forms.
Liberty University Students

Scholarships
A limited number of Honors scholarships are available to students who participate in the Honors Program (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50), and preference is given to those who apply early. Applications are reviewed on the first day of each month beginning March 1st. Applications will not be considered unless postmarked by April 20th. Each Honors student must be enrolled in the appropriate number of Honors courses each semester to be eligible for an Honors scholarship. To receive the National Merit scholarship, students must present their National Merit certificate and participate in the Honors Program. Also, to be considered for an Honors or National Merit scholarship, students must first submit their FAFSA.

Curricular Requirements
- Two 100/200 level Honors courses are to be taken each semester until the student achieves junior status (i.e., completion of four semesters of college and sixty hours of course work; CLEP and AP credits do not count toward junior status). Note: Honors students entering as freshmen take 24 hours, sophomores take 12 hours, and juniors take six hours of 100/200 honors credit.
- Nine semester hours from upper-division courses (300/400 level) are to be taken for Honors credit. Normally, only one class (3 semester hours) of these upper-division Honors credits may be taken as an independent study.
- Successful completion of three semester hours of a Senior Honors Thesis (HONR 495).
