Based on a solid performance in the regional competition, our undergraduate Moot Court team was invited to compete in the 2008 National American Collegiate Moot Court Association Tournament. The tournament will be on January 18-19, 2008 in Des Moines, Iowa. Congratulation Team! Update: Although the snowy weather brought with it many trials and tribulations (including not having any luggage), our moot court team placed 9th in the Nation. |

| On January 31, 2008, Ann Buwalda, Esq. will speak on the topic "The Ebed-Melech Principle: Cross-cultural Intervention and Justice." This event will be from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. in the Supreme Court Room located in Liberty University School of Law. This is a great opportunity for those students interested in studying law especially those interested in international law and human rights law. | |
| January 31st-February 2nd: Mock Trial Team is Going to Regionals. |
| The Mock Trial team will be traveling to Greenville, South Carolina to participate in the “South Atlantic Regional Mock Trial Tournament.” Please keep them in your prayers as this team travels and competes. |
| February 22nd & 23rd: Natural Law Symposium | |

The Liberty University Law Review is pleased to announce its inaugural symposium scheduled for February 22 and 23, 2008. The symposium, entitled, "The Natural Law in Protestant Political and Legal Thought," will provide a forum where a wide range of Protestant scholars will present articles exploring the place of the natural law tradition in Protestant political and legal thought. Articles presented at the symposium will be published in the Liberty University Law Review. Those presenting at this year's symposium will bring ideas and insights from the various Protestant traditions as well as from the disciplines of philosophy, theology, and law. March 13-15: Christian Pre-Law Conference |
| Students will attend the Regent Law School Preview sessions, and will have some joint sessions with the pre-law advisors. The student rate is $150 and covers the conference, meals and lodging. On Saturday, March 29, at 8:30am - noon, Liberty School of Law will be hosting a special event for minority students to learn about careers in law and law school from distinguished legal professionals and current law students. You will be able to hear from a panel of legal professionals feature Rita Davis, Former President of Richmond Chapter Old Dominion Bar Association, Member of Board of Governors of the Virginia State Bar Young Lawyers Conference, and Associate at Hunton & Williams in Richmond, Virginia. Also featured is a panel of law students sharing their law school experiences and career plans as minorities. This event is free of charge, but reservations are required and seating is limited. The Koch Associate Program (KAP) is a year-long, paid program which connects participants with think tanks, educational groups, and policy organizations where they work four days per week. One day is spent with the Foundation staff learning Market-Based Management®--the philosophy that enables an organization to succeed long term by applying the principles that cause a free society to prosper. The Career Center will host Karen M. from the CIA to present information to students who may be interested in working for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). It will be held on Thursday, April 17, at 4pm in Demoss Hall 1113.* This presentation includes: Who the CIA is looking for; How and When to apply to the CIA; and What to expect during the application process. Liberty University School of Law Supreme Court Room The Liberty University School of Law will host a moot court on Wednesday, October 29, in the Supreme Courtroom. This moot court will help prepare Jay Sekulow and the American Center for Law and Justice for argument before the United States Supreme Court in a case scheduled for November 12.
This free speech case involves the Ten Commandments and the Seven Aphorisms of the Summum cult. You do not want to miss this event! This session is open to the Liberty University community. LUPD will be present to check IDs.

There will be admissions advisors and directors from a number of law schools here to advise you on how to best prepare for law school and how to create a winning application. The panel gives prospective students an opportunity to have their questions answered as well as gather plenty of information. Students have the chance to get firsthand information about admission requirements, personal statements, and a list of things not to do when applying. 2:15PM The Federalist Society at Liberty University School of Law welcomes you as Mark Krikorian conducts a talk on his new book, The New Case Against Immigration, Both Legal and Illegal. This event is open to all law students, faculty, and staff, as well as the University and law communities. Mr. Krikorian is the Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies, the nation's only think tank devoted exclusively to research and policy analysis of the economic, social, demographic, fiscal, and other impacts of immigration on the United States. |

11:45PM - 12:45PM Michael Hegarty graduated from Kansas State University (BA 1982, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa), after which he studied in Europe on a full scholarship. Judge Hegarty then attended the University of Kansas School of Law (JD 1986, Order of the Coif). Judge Hegarty clerked for U.S. District Judge Dale Saffels from 1986-1988. Following this judicial clerkship, he worked as an associate attorney with the Washington, D.C., law firm of Arnold & Porter from 1988-1990. In 1992, Judge Hegarty became an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Colorado. His areas of practice included defending the United States and its agents in civil litigation, including employment discrimination, personal injury, federal appeals, Administrative Procedure Act suits, natural resource law, immigration cases, Social Security disability cases, Privacy Act/FOIA, prisoner habeas and Bivens claims, and other constitutional torts. He became the Chief of the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2002 and remained in that position until 2006. On February 15, 2006, Judge Hegarty was sworn in as a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Colorado. Judge Hegarty hears and determines all pre-trial proceedings in both civil and criminal matters, and is primarily responsible for conducting settlement conferences in civil cases. He has successfully assisted in the resolution of 92% of all cases presented to him for settlement.

| February 20: Bradley E. King - State Attorney for the 5th Judicial Circuit of Florida |

11:45am - 12:45pm Bradley E. King graduated with honors from the University of Florida in 1978. He then began studies at the University of Florida Fredric G. Levin College of Law and worked part-time as Minister of Youth at Wyomina Park Baptist Church in Ocala. He left law school to work full-time as a Marion County Deputy Sheriff. He subsequently returned to the University of Florida College of Law, graduated in 1981, and began his career as a state prosecutor.
Mr. King’s presentation will include personal comments and news clips from his experiences in prosecuting such well-known defendants as the Vampire Killer, Aileen Wuornos, and John Couey. Law School dress is required. |

Intelligent Design and Public School Cirriculum Liberty University Law Review is pleased to announce its second annual symposium titled “Intelligent Design and Public School Curriculum”. This upcoming forum offers a distinctive experience with renowned experts on the origins of life, including biochemist Dr. Michael Behe. Other symposium speakers include: Casey Luskin of the Discovery Institute, Professor Jay Wexler of Boston University, Professor Johnny Buckles of the University of Houston Law Center, John Calvert of the Intelligent Design Network, Professor Arnold Lowey of Texas Tech University School of Law, and Edward Sisson.
Keynote Dinner with Dr. Michael Behe Following the symposium will be the keynote dinner to be held at Pate Chapel inside Thomas Road Baptist Church. Dr. Michael Behe will present his critique of Darwin’s Origin of the Species. Dr. Behe is best known for his “Irreducible Complexity” argument which supports the idea that life is so complex it had to be designed. While it is free to attend the symposium, tickets are available to purchase for the keynote dinner with Dr. Behe. Tickets are $5 with your student ID.
