Police Officer
Bedford, VA

The City of Bedford Virginia Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of Police Officer.  Duties include enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia as well as the ordinances of the City of Bedford.  Applicants must pass a rigorous background investigation, a physical agility and written aptitude test, a psychological and physical examination. 

Qualifications:

  • At least 21 years of age
  • U.S. citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a valid Virginia driver's license with a good driving record
  • No felony or misdemeanor convictions including moral turpitude or domestic violence
  • Good physical condition
  • Vision must be 20/20 corrected or 20/60 uncorrected

Community Re-Entry Resident Supervisor 
Montgomery County, Maryland

Recruitment Period Begins August 11, 2008

Front-line and entry-level position with Montgomery County (Maryland) Department of Correction and Rehabilitation's (DOCR) nationally-recognized Pre-Release program; Part of reentry team to assist court-sentenced individuals transition to the community; Monitor and guide program participants living at the Pre-Release Center (PRC) and on Home Confinement; Oversee program's security and accreditation requirements; Facilitate morning programs; Work in 171-bed ACA accredited PRC located in Rockville, Maryland with field work conducted throughout the Greater Washington DC area; Collaborate with social service providers, courts, police, prosecutors, probation/parole agents, sex offender registry office; Work directly with DOCR staff at the Montgomery County Division; Professional opportunities to advance within the Pre-Release and Reentry Services Division and the Department.  More program information at:  http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/mcgtmpl.asp?url=/content/docr/PRC/PRC_GRP.asp.

Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age and a citizen of the United States or a resident alien
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Pass a comprehensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination, physical strength test, and drug/alcohol screen
  • Successfully complete the Maryland Correctional Training Academy Entry-Level Program within 12 months of hire
  • Willingness to work 8-hour schedules on one of three shifts:  7am - 3:30pm;  3pm - 11:30pm; 11pm - 7:30am; including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Experience providing services and/or supervising individuals with criminal histories in community setting
  • Familiarity with criminal justice and social services systems collaborations
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse staff and clients with varied backgrounds.
