On Wednesday September 30, 2009, The Helms School of Government hosted a private reception for the New York Times best-selling author Joel C. Rosenberg. Joel Rosenberg’s Best-selling works are: The last Jihad, The last Days, the Ezekiel Option, the Copper Scrolls, and Epicenter: How the Current Rumblings in the Middle East Will Change Your World. His passion to share Christ with those in the Middle East is evident in not only his writings but shows in his desire to see the expansion of the Kingdom of God. He has previously served as a former senior aide to U.S. and Israeli leaders. Mr. Rosenberg is Founder and President of the nonprofit and educational organization called the Joshua Fund. The Joshua Fund was established for the purpose of amassing Christians to follow in the Teachings to “bless Israel and her neighbors in the name of Jesus according to Genesis 12:1-3.”

The Helms School Of Government had the honor of hosting former United States Congressman Bob McEwen on Wednesday, September, 16, 2009. The Congressman spoke to the students and professors, fielding questions concerning his life in politics to his love for the United States of America. Congressman McEwen is a well gifted public Speaker, who uses his skills advocating for pro-family interests, and free market economics. One of Congressman Ewen's greatest accomplishments invovled his contribution toward observing the fall of the Berlin Wall. He was elected to one of the most desired positions in Congress, the Select Committee on intelligence. He represented the State of Ohio for six terms in the United States House of Representatives.
Dr. Stephen Parke, Associate Dean and Associate Professor at Liberty's Helms School of Government, talked about the importance of patriotism and public service during Friday's HSOG convocation.
Parke recalled his experience serving in the United States Army when the terrorist attacks occurred eight years ago today. “Can you remember where you were on Sept. 11, 2001?” he asked students.
Parke called on students to pray for our country and said that our nation must return to the Lord, quoting 2 Chron. 7:13-14,19.
Dean George Buzzy closed the convocation encouraging students to take advantage of the opportunities they have as students in the Helms School to gain experience and learn leadership.
“The opportunities on this campus for you to grow up, to learn and to prepare yourself for the destination that the Lord has are here, you just need to seize them and equip yourself,” he said.

The Liberty University College Republicans held their first meeting of the 2009/2010 school year on August 27. About fifty students were in attendance as the club hosted honored guests, State Chairman Pat Mullins, Republican Delegate Ben Cline, and candidate for Lynchburg Delegate, Dr. Scott Garrett. These guests offered encouragment to the students as they spoke about the upcoming elections across the Commonwealth and the importance of getting involved in making sure a conservative Republican wins at every level, from Governor to Delegate.
Dr. Buzzy and Dr. Parke had the opportunity to participate in the Army ROTC Leader's Training Course (LTC) at Fort Knox, Kentucky. They were able to observe the newly minted second lieutenants in action and were trained in rappelling, river crossing and the high ropes course. There was also a banquet and a combat platoon demonstration.
