Biographical Statement:

     Dr. Joel Cox’s criminal justice experience spans 24 years. He has extensive state and local police experience. He has worked as a Virginia State Trooper, local sheriff deputy, and officer with the 43rd largest city law enforcement agency in America. Dr. Cox has worked assignments in: patrol, undercover operations, community policing, property crimes, robbery, and homicide as an officer/detective. He was promoted to sergeant and then to lieutenant. As a sergeant he led on of Virginia’s only full-time SWAT Teams. As a lieutenant he was second in command of 113 officers and staff in a precinct that serviced 34 square miles, 112,000 citizens, 8,000 businesses. He has been a certified police instructor since 1991.
