IACUC Post-Approval Monitoring

Purpose & Authority

All protocols reviewed and approved by the Liberty University IACUC are subject to Post-Approval Monitoring, or PAM. The purpose of PAM is to document adherence to approved protocols and, if necessary, provide guidance to bring protocols into compliance with the established standards for animal care and use. In addition, these reviews provide a mechanism for the IACUC to demonstrate to external agencies that Liberty University animal use practices match approved policies.

Process

The PAM process will include a table-top review of all procedures and personnel listed in the protocols.

If the university veterinarian determines that a non-compliance issue presents an immediate threat to the welfare of the animals on the protocol, the procedure may be halted with an emergency IACUC meeting.

Protocol Modification & Compliance

If PAM identifies areas which require either modification of an approved protocol or of animal use practices, the IACUC will work with the investigator to identify and implement potential solutions in a timely manner.

The Principal Investigator will be notified in writing of the issue and any remedial action that must be performed. A member of the research office staff will monitor the status of any required corrective actions and will subsequently report any updates to the IACUC.
