Gain a clear understanding of how the United States defines and executes national security policy and how the U.S. Intelligence Community operates. 

With our Strategic Intelligence concentration, cognate, and minor, you will gain a practical understanding of terrorism, counterterrorism, and intelligence-gathering to equip you for a career in this field. 

Our online undergraduate National Security concentration will give you a broad overview of national security policy, homeland security policy, organization and execution, and the application of strategic intelligence to meet national security objectives, and our Master of Science in National Security will prepare you for leadership and administration of national security organizations.

In addition to your studies, you'll engage in hands-on learning opportunities alongside professionals who are currently working in the intelligence and national security field.

National Security Degree Offerings

  • B.S. in Government - National Security

    This degree will help you explore how nations use diplomacy, intelligence, and military strength to develop policy and regional stability or use their military to take action in a crisis. You’ll study history, political theory, and public policy analysis. During our national security-focused courses, you’ll learn about threat scenarios, defense budgets and economics, and security strategy.

Liberty's Strategic Intelligence Society has over 100 members.

Students participate in a major intelligence exercise each spring semester.

Intelligence exercises bring multiple disciplines together including criminal justice, law, ROTC, engineering, and computer science.

William Waddell
 

Specializing in the areas of intelligence, cyberspace policy, and military operations, Professor Waddell has professional experience in both the US Navy and US Army War College. He brings to the class years of experience in aviation and carrier-based anti-submarine warfare.


 

Courses You Could Take

  • Introduction to Intelligence and National Security

    Learn about the field of intelligence and the Intelligence Community and how it all works within the framework of the Department of Homeland Security.

  • Strategic Intelligence

    Study the concept of Strategic Intelligence, including the concept of fourth generation warfare, from the standpoint of the various intelligence agencies, the Department of State, and the Department of Defense.

  • Counter-Terrorism

    Evaluate the main aspects of the war on terror. The course will focus on dilemmas relating to intelligence gathering, offensive and defensive actions taken against terrorist organizations, civil liberties and media coverage, and the strategies and approaches for combating terrorism.

  • Intelligence Analysis

    Study the field of intelligence analysis and get a basic understanding of what it takes to be an analyst within the Intelligence Community. The course looks at some classic intelligence failures as well as some of the unpublished successes.
