Fifteen years ago, Denise and her husband believed that God called them to Liberty for the sole purpose of her husband becoming the Head Coach for the Women’s Basketball team. Over the past fifteen years, however, she has been convinced that she was also called to Liberty to teach in the Bruckner Learning Center.
God has blessed them with two wonderful children who are now grown. Their daughter, Angie, is married to Jason Grunkemeyer, a men’s basketball coach at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. (Can you believe that Angie married a basketball coach? Mrs. Green thought she had taught her better!) They have two sons, Joshua David and Nathan Jason. Their son, Brian, is an engineer at Fluor, Inc., in Greenville, SC. Brian is married to Susan Nunes Mullins, a pharmacist, and they have two sons, Connor Allen and Bryson Harley. They have truly been blessed!
She was saved at the age of nine years old when she heard a revival preacher plainly explain that those who didn’t accept Christ as their Savior would be permanently separated from God throughout all eternity. He drew a picture on the chalkboard of a wall separating two stick figures- one being God and the other being her. The Holy Spirit used this simple picture and the words of that preacher to prick her heart and make her realize that she did not want to be separated from God and that she wanted a personal relationship with Jesus, the only one who could break down that wall to God. He has been her Lord and Savior since that day, even though just like everyone else, she often doesn’t give Him the throne like she should. But she knows He still loves her and will continue to forgive her when she asks, because He is her loving Father! She counts it a privilege to be able to serve Him here at Liberty and spread His love to her students.
She absolutely loves the interaction with students and feels that it is her “ministry” at this time in her life. She is also the “Team Mom” for the Lady Flames Basketball team and loves doing that equally as well.
