Laptop Computer Requirements for 2011-2012

Please note that the laptop computer requirements for the School of Engineering & Computational Sciences are different from the general University.   All Freshmen and Transfer Engineering students entering Fall 2011, or Spring 2012 are required to meet the minimum laptop computer requirements.

All incoming Engineering Freshmen and transfer students are required to purchase MatLab with Simulink ($99 download).  This software is required for all engineering students.

Microsoft Windows is provided free of charge to all student within the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences via MSDNAA.  Students will have access to this software after drop add.

You can view and purchase your computer at the Liberty University IT Marketplace or from your vendor of choice. The IT Marketplace is a site contains special pricing for our students.

If you wish to use another system, it must meet the requirements listed below.

• Processor...................................(PC or Mac) 2.0 Ghz Core 2 Duo or better
                                                                       iCore 5 or iCore7 Processor (Especially for Engineering)
• Memory...................................... 4 GB RAM (4GB recommended for 64bit OS’s)
• Video Card...................................at least 128mb video
• Hard Drive...................................at least 250 GB or better (7200RPM or better recommended)
• Optical Drive...............................at least DVD/CDRW (DVD+/-RW recommended)
• Network.......................................Gigabit Ethernet and Wireless 802.11 a/g/n
• External Ports: USB 2.0 or 3.0
• Additional Accessories: Built-in Webcam, external USB Hard Drive of 1TB or more

Computer Science
