Program Status Check

Gate 1: Declaration of Major with Teacher Licensure. Gate 2: Admission to the Educator Preparation Program. Gate 3: Admission to Student Teaching. Gate 4: Completion of Student Teaching

Application Requirements

  • Degree Completion Plan Audit (Submitted as a PDF)
    • Teacher Licensure Major
    • 3.0 Cumulative GPA
    • EDUC 125 – Completion with a grade of “C” or higher
  • Licensure Exams
    • Official score sheet with passing scores for VCLA and
    • Official score sheet with passing scores for the Math section of Praxis Core and
    • Official score sheet with passing scores for the Reading section of Praxis Core
  • Autobiographical Sketch (assignment associated with EDUC 220/221)
  • Documentation of 30-hour practicum (introduced/associated with EDUC 125)
  • Full documentation of Background Clearances
    • Criminal Background
    • FBI Fingerprints
    • Virginia Child Abuse Clearances
    • Individual State Child Abuse Clearance(s) for each state of residency within the last five years
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test with Negative Result (current within the last 12 months)
    • TB test may need to be updated throughout the program
  • Liability Insurance – Christian Educator Association International (CEAI) (current within the last 12 months)
    • Policy may need to be updated throughout the program
  • Maintain Satisfactory Conduct
     

Application Submission

  • Submission Instructions: Application must be completed and submitted using the candidate’s LiveText application.
  • Application Tutorial: View this file for additional step-by-step assistance with the application.
  • Before you may register for EDUC 225/226, EDUC 235/236, EDUC 240, or KINE 245, your Gate 2 application must be submitted, reviewed, and approved.

Application Deadline

  • Program entrance for Fall Semester: June 1
  • Program entrance for Spring Semester: December 1

Application Review

  • Your application will be reviewed by the Gate Office within two weeks of your submission.
  • You will receive an email from the Gate Office indicating your application status. This email will provide further instructions according to your status.

Application Status

Green Status

  • You have met all of the requirements for Gate 2 for Program Status Check and should begin to prepare for Gate 3 requirements.
  • You should be able to register for the appropriate classes through ASIST within 24-48 hours of your approval.

Yellow Status

  • You have met conditional scores on one or more exams with all other Gate 2 requirements met. You must study and retest to obtain the minimum passing score requirements in preparation for Gate 3, in addition to all other Gate 3 requirements
  • You should be able to register for the appropriate classes through ASIST within 24-48 hours of your approval.

Red Status

  • You have not met minimum Gate 2 requirements. You will need to study and retest for the appropriate exams and/or update your application with the missing components.
  • You will only be able to register for EDUC 125 and/or EDUC 220/221 while you remain on Red Status. Upon the appropriate application updates, an increased status may be earned.
  • Review your application rubric carefully for details about how to update your application.
