Barlow Scholarship

The Daniel L. Barlow Teacher Education Scholarship has been established to encourage academically talented individuals with superior potential for educational leadership to enter into careers in the field of teaching. Given in honor of the late Liberty education professor, Daniel L. Barlow, this scholarship will be awarded to students whose lives exemplify the spiritual commitment which characterized Dr. Barlow’s life and work.

The Barlow scholarship targets candidates seeking endorsement in critical shortage needs; typically, these are Mathematics and Science.

The Barlow scholarship will be applied to the academic year and will cover tuition costs up to $3,000 for the year. Cost of fees, room and board, books, and classroom materials are not included.

Eligibility requirements for the Barlow scholarship include:

  • GPA (cumulative 3.0 or above)
  • Gate 2 Program Status Check – Green Status
  • Critical Shortage Area
  • All As and Bs in Education courses
  • Financial need

When you are contacted in the Spring that the scholarship application window is open for submissions, please fill out the Barlow Scholarship Eligibility form and return to the School of Education as directed in the email notification received.


TEAA Scholarship

The TEAA Scholarship (Teacher Education Access for All) has been established to encourage and make it possible for well-qualified, talented, and strongly motivated individuals who have financial need to enter the field of teaching. Preference may be given to first-generation college students.

The TEAA scholarship will be applied to the academic year and will cover tuition costs up to $3,000 for the year. Cost of fees, room and board, books, and classroom materials are not included.

Eligibility requirements for the TEAA scholarship include:

  • GPA (cumulative 3.0 or above)
  • Gate 2 Program Status Check – Green Status
  • All As and Bs in Education courses
  • Financial need
  • Preference may be given to first-generation college students.

Virginia Scholarship

The Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program is targeted to candidates with a residence in Virginia who are seeking a teaching endorsement in a critical shortage area as designated each year by the State Department.

The Virginia Department of Education establishes the requirements for the scholarship each year. Information about this scholarship is sent out to candidates after the State provides the criterion.
