Master of Education (M.Ed.)

MATH or READING Specialist - Licensure 

NOTE: Early Childhood and Gifted Programs have moved to M.Ed. Teaching & Learning

Requirements:

  • Current state teaching license required:
    • Reading Specialists must have elementary, secondary, or special education license
    • Math Specialist must have math teaching license (middle or secondary)
  • Three years of full-time contractual teaching experience required (may be acquired during M.Ed. program)
  • Must have at least one year of full-time contractual teaching experience prior to internship
  • Intensives: EDUC 622, 641, and 645
  • Field experiences and internship
  • Licensure Tests (passing scores PRIOR to applying for Gate 3*)

Math Specialist:

  • Praxis II 0069 Middle School Mathematics = 163
    OR
  • Praxis II 0061 Math: Content Knowledge = 147

Reading Specialist:

  • VRA 002=245 (prior to 7/2011)
    OR
  • Praxis II RVE (Reading Specialist Assessment) = 162 (7/2011 and after)
    • EDUC 554 required BEFORE taking the RVE. RVE now available out-of-state (Instructions).
    • Note: Passing RVE scores at Gate 3 are preferred.  However, students are allowed to submit a registration receipt for the RVE with test date up to two months after the Gate 3 Application initial submission deadline for probationary status.  Register at http://www.ets.org.
