About COMS
Students declared under the Communication Studies major work toward Liberty University's B.S. degree in Communication Studies. This degree prepares students for an entry-level career in advertising, public relations, broadcasting, journalism or speech communication.
The following are the learning outcomes established for each concentration and core* courses:
Advertising and Public Relations
Ad/PR students will learn to:

Research and develop communication strategies.

Create and evaluate persuasive messages.

Disseminate those messages through a variety of media.

Manage communication campaigns, programs and organizations.
Digital Media
Digital Media students will demonstrate an understanding of broadcasting theory and principles, including:

The whole process of producing projects from script writing through production.

Recent developments in new broadcasting formats and applications on the Internet.

Issues related to professional practice in digital media.

The integration of a Judeo-Christian ethical worldview as a professional.
Digital Media students will demonstrate a proficiency in:

Basic audio and video skills.

Linear and non-linear editing skills.

Critiquing productions, and the use of computer-based digital broadcasting production tools.
Journalism
Journalism students will be able to:

Develop story ideas.

Gather pertinent information from a variety of sources.

Use the Judeo-Christian ethics as the basis for effective, accurate and objective treatment of information.
Speech Communication
Speech Communication students will develop the ability to:

Prepare and present effective messages.

Evaluate communication critically.

Comprehend various theoretical perspectives of communication processes.
