In addition to practicum and field experience, students gain experience through participation in various activities sponsored by the School.

First, for students interested in gaining experience in news, journalism, photography, ad sales or feature stories, the Liberty Champion provides many opportunities. Similar experience can also be gained at 90.9 The Light FM, the campus radio station. The Department of English sponsors Lamp, a literary periodical that features creative writing in fiction, essays and poetry by student writers.

Requests for videos and website creations come in from the university, as well as the Lynchburg community.

The Ad Team offers an annual competition in creating and presenting advertising campaigns.

The Liberty Debate Team, which originally began in the School of Communication and Creative Arts, offers national exposure through competition at the novice, junior varsity and varsity debate levels in NDT, ADA and CEDA formats.

Each academic department sponsors honorary societies for students who excel academically. English majors join Sigma Tau Delta; Spanish majors, Sigma Delta Pi; Communication Studies majors, Lambda Pi Eta.
