The Department of Theatre Arts provides instruction in the theory and practice of theatre performance and production, preparing students for success in their personal and professional lives. Central to the departmental purpose is the development of observant, sensitive theatrical artists, who with skills, training, knowledge and professional attitudes can glorify Christ in the world through the practice of their craft and the testimony of their lives.
Students can complete a Bachelor of Arts with concentrations in production, performance, education, dramturgy, and theatre arts administration. A minor is offered for those not planning on pursuing theater as a career. All Liberty students are encouraged to audition for productions.
The department produces multiple shows in the Tower Theater each year including dramas, comedies and musicals. Students have the opportunity to attend professional workshops, audition for the Alluvion Stage Company, the professional arm of the department, and be inducted into the national theatre honor society, Alpha Psi Omega.
Kappa Theta Alpha is Liberty's proud chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, the National Theater Honor Society. To be inducted, students must have participated in a minimum of 7 productions, completed 15 hours of theatre classes (not including productions) while maintaining a GPA of 3.25 or higher, be of good ethical standing with the university, and be voted into the chapter by Theatre faculty and staff.
