  • 30-year career with media and consumer merchandising organizations where he served more than two decades as an executive. Companies, where he headed marketing and operations, included: Lee Enterprises which owned daily newspaper, broadcast, and specialty publications, and apparel merchandiser Steve Madden. Schwartz also headed business development for a 150-store retail music chain.
  • Received the Liberty University Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence.
  • Has instructed on integrated marketing communications, branding, mobile and online media development, and social media strategy.

Dr. Schwartz’s research has focused on topics associated with interactive and social media, media bias, and the use of technology in digital marketing and consumer merchandising. He has been invited by numerous industry-leading organizations to speak, including the American Press Institute and at Harvard University. At Harvard, he instructed strategic communication executives on the use of video and digital technologies in marketing education.

Known for his expertise in digital marketing and promotions, Schwartz is the author of the textbook, "The Savvy Social Media Guide: Improve Your Social Media Skills…NOW!," in addition to a chapter on the power of ‘big data’ to transform relationships in the newly published compendium of research methods by international reference publisher IGI Global. Dr. Schwartz has also chaired a research division of the organization now known as the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication. He has also served on numerous editorial boards for the top journals in his field.


Dr. Schwartz combines his professional experience and research interests as a foundation for his strategic communication courses. Several of his courses have provided creative and project management support with hands-on projects for corporate and non-profit organizations, as well as organizational communication for departments at Liberty University.
