Wilderness First Aid

Course Description

Like the outdoors? Try Wilderness First Aid! Be ready for outdoor emergencies:

  • Preparation and Assessment
  • Preventing and Caring for Injuries
  • Environmental and Biological Hazards
  • Map Reading

Participants who pass this course (meets Saturdays for four weeks) will be certified by the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) and earn a 2.0 CEU certificate from Liberty University.

Open to all, including the general public.

Instructor - J.D. Emerson

J.D. was born in Chatham, Virginia. After graduating from Whitmell Farm Life High School, he joined the Army and learned combat medical, weapons, tactics, surveillance, and survival skills. After the Army, J.D. graduated from Guilford Tech with a degree in industrial technology.

J.D. is an Instructor Trainer for the following:

  • American Red Cross, Emergency First Responder
  • ASHI (American Safety & Health) CPR/First Aid/AED and Wilderness First Aid
  • Dive Medic
  • Self Defense (holds a fifth degree black belt certification)
  • PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) Master SCUBA Diver Trainer
  • Public Safety Diving and IDEA (International Diving Education Association (underwater crime scene investigation and Black Water Diving)

J.D. is a pilot and enjoys flying as one of his favorite hobbies.
