Alpha Lambda Delta Candidates:
Congratulations on your achievements! Each and every one of you has outstanding academic accomplishments of which you can be proud. I encourage everyone to join Alpha Lambda Delta and to be very active in all its activities, but my letter will be especially directed to those interested in leadership positions in the society. I know that long letters can seem daunting, and, since I have important information to share with you, I will try to keep this as short as possible.
Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) is the honor society for freshmen with excellent academics. Your only chance to be inducted into the society is your sophomore year; furthermore, your sophomore year is the only time in which you are eligible to serve as leadership in the society, which sets ALD apart from other honor societies that normally only allow senior members to serve in leadership positions. From day to day interactions with people to your future career, the leadership experience you will gain will help you in every aspect of your life.
As a member of leadership, you will have a chance to plan events for the entire society. A few examples of some of the activities we did last year are making a float for the Homecoming Parade, making gift bags for maintenance workers, and helping out at the Jubilee Center (a care center for children).
A leadership position is very important and an obligation that you should take very seriously. While the benefits are worth the amount of work that goes into the society, it is a full-time commitment. Meetings are held once a week, and there are society wide activities that must be planned at least once a month. No member of leadership is any more important than any other member; you all must work together as a team in order to successfully host an event.
