The new Content Editor vastly improves the user experience for entering text, pasting content from Microsoft Word, and adding content to all areas of Blackboard Learn.
Instructors can now easily refine assessments by evaluating the quality of each question and that question's ability to discriminate between students who understand the material and those who do not. Ineffective questions can be easily identified and then quickly corrected with the Automatic Regrade feature.
Instructors can view a submitted document, and that document is converted to a format that is viewable inside the web browser. Supported document types that can be converted are Word (DOC, DOCX), PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX), Excel (XLS, XLSX), and PDF (PDF). The converted document is displayed in a viewer on the Grade Assignment page, and formatting and embedded images of the original document are preserved in the conversion. The viewer has a toolbar enabling the Instructor to zoom, comment, page forward and backward, download, and show annotations.
The Retention Center is an instructor-only tool that enables you to give focused attention to students who need it. It replaces the Early Warning System feature with easy workflows, while retaining all existing Early Warning System data and rules.
The Calendar in Blackboard Learn has been significantly enhanced. The calendar displays a consolidated view of all institution, course, organization, and personal calendar events for a user. Calendar events are color coded by course. Instructors can use the calendar course tool as a primary way of managing and communicating the schedule of events and assignments in the course. Calendar supports due dates, if set, for gradable items. Clicking on calendar items allows an instructor to view or edit the item, or grade attempts on the associated item.
The Thread Detail page is thoroughly redesigned yet maintains all of its previous functions. All of the posts in a thread are now visible at the same time on one page. Role highlighting - posts made by forum managers and moderators now contain the user’s course role and forum role. When replying to a post, the content editor appears on the same page in the context of the discussion when replying to a post.
In addition to these, instructors can use a new the Post-First Setting to require students to post to a forum before they can see other students’ posts.
Video Everywhere is a new feature within the content editor. A new icon in the content editor authorizes access to your webcam. This feature provides the ability for instructors and students to record video which can be embedded anywhere the content editor is accessible.
