Second Stage

The Originals: A Play-Reading Series

Location: Terrace Conferece Room, Jerry Falwell Library
Performances: 7:00 p.m., 8:30 p.m.

The Originals was created as an opportunity for students from the Department of Theatre Arts to have their original plays heard by an audience.

These students have been studying playwriting for a semester, and were required to submit a full one-act play for a final grade. Pieces of these shows have been heard before, but The Originals is the first time many of these plays will be heard in their entirety by a full cast of rehearsed actors.

The Second Stage performances include any theatre opportunity that is not a part of the 2017-18 Season and does not happen on the Tower Theater stage. These opportunities are free and open to the public. For those of you who have never been to a play reading before, there are no costumes – there is no set. The actors sit/stand, move about and read the plays dramatically as the playwright intended.

This is a chance for an audience to engage with the heart of the writer by focusing on the words of the play alone, read by talented actors from the Department of Theatre Arts. There will be a chance for audience feedback at the end of each reading. You may choose to attend one or both readings per night free of charge.
