President-Bethany McDonald

"Hello everyone!  My name is Bethany McDonald, and I have the privilege of serving the band as the President this year. This is my fourth year marching alto saxophone in the marching band, along with playing oboe in the Wind Symphony and the Symphony Orchestra here at Liberty.  I'm a senior in the Graphic Design program, and my family and I have recently moved to Lynchburg, making Lynchburg now my permanent home.  I enjoy hiking, relaxing in my Eno, crafting, hand-lettering, and anything and everything associated with Fall! I'm beyond excited to get to know all of you - I know God is going to do some wonderful and exciting things this coming year!"
James 1:2-4

Vice President-Timothy Murphy

"Hello everybody! I am Timothy Murphy, and I will be serving as your Vice President.  I am super duper excited to march with you again this fall.  We are going to have a blast.  I am a part of the best section ever…Go Trumpets!  I am a junior music education major, and have I said that I play the trumpet?  I love marching band; actually, I love music.  (Go Trumpets!)  I plan on having my own marching band one day, so the opportunity to serve you through leadership is a huge blessing as it will prepare me for the future…Go Trumpets!  In my free time (ya know, the time when we aren’t in class, practicing, or doing homework), I like to go running.  If you want to go run, or grab a meal, or go for a run, let me know…it will be a blast.  Go trumpets!"

Chaplain-Caleb Martin

"Hello everyone! My name is Caleb Martin, and I have the joy and honor to serve you all this year as band chaplain for the Liberty University Marching Band, “The Spirit of the Mountain,” and the Liberty University Wind Symphony. I have played alto sax the past two years in Marching Band and have had the privilege to spend a year and a half being a part of the Wind Symphony. I am in my junior year as a music education major and it is my calling and passion to be a high school and collegiate band director. Whenever I am not playing music and studying, you can find me playing and watching sports, and spending time with family and friends. God has blessed me in my time here and in these two amazing groups. I pray that we will not only enjoy our time together in fellowship and using our crafts to make music, but to bless you as well and really grow together in Christ and perform for his glory!"

Secretary/Treasurer-Tyler Cypher

"Greetings! It is my immense pleasure to introduce someone I have personally known for my entire life, myself, Tyler Cypher. I have trained and acquired most of my skills in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. Although I am skilled in almost everything, I specialize in the computational sciences. This will be my third year in "The Spirit of the Mountain" Marching Band wielding the instrument of God: the trumpet.  Besides the Marching Band, I provide my services in the Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble here at Liberty. When I’m not furthering my abilities on the trumpet or on the computer, I enjoy defeating my foes in volleyball and soccer (challengers welcomed, but beware!). I also enjoy watching movies, playing any kind of game, and discovering new ways to do embarrassing things in public. I’m very excited to see what this year has in store!"

Social Media-Abigail Summers

"Hello! My name is Abigail Summers (although, since band means family, you can feel free to call me Abby), and I am so excited to serve you as the band's social media officer! I currently march mellophone in the Marching Band, and I just finished my first year with the Wind Symphony. I am a sophomore, and I am majoring in Business Administration with Project Management. With this degree, I hope to explore the inter-working of different companies and hopefully to own a non-profit foundation of my own! When I am not at band, you can bet on seeing me at the library with an iced coffee, regardless of the temperature outside. I also LOVE cats, tea, and Netflix marathons. I am a very friendly person, and I look forward to getting to spend this next season with you! God has blessed this band in so many ways, and I am so excited to get to ride along whatever He has planned. "

Christian Service-Kassie Baumann

"Hi! My name is Kassie Baumann, and I'm so excited to be an officer this year! This is my second year playing clarinet in the marching band, and I also play contrabass clarinet in the Wind Symphony. I am a Social Work Major with a Youth Ministries Minor and I plan on graduating in 2018.  My plan with this is to work with troubled teens. While I do love music a whole lot, Jesus and people are my true passions. I also really love coffee, spontaneous adventures, reading, Netflix binges, and spending time with my family and friends! I'm so excited to see what God has in store for this amazing band this year!"
2 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus."

Field Leadership

Head Field Commander-Ashley Cypher

"Hello! My name is Ashley Cypher and I am a senior Music Education major from Palmyra , PA. I am very excited to be serving as head field commander for the 2016 Liberty University Marching Band: "The Spirit of the Mountain." This will be my fourth year being a part of the marching band, and I am looking forward to the exciting memories to come! When I am not conducting the marching band you can find me performing as a part of the Orchestra, Wind Symphony, and Woodwind Quintet. When I have free time I enjoy running, watching movies, late night ice cream runs, and creating memories with friends. I also love going on adventures, school, and most importantly Jesus. For all the unknown and excitement that comes with senior year I am thrilled that I can spend another season with the marching band."

Field Commander-Mark McDonald

"Hey guys! My name is Mark McDonald and I will be one of your Field Commanders this season. I am so excited to be back with you all again for my fourth season, and cannot wait to see what is in store for us! I am going to be a Senior this year studying Music Education, concentrating specifically in instrumental education with my primary instrument being the Horn. I have a passion for conducting (as you will soon find out), as well as for history, reading, Ultimate, PUPPIES, video games, great TV shows (Parks and Rec, Frasier, and Friends are my top three) black coffee and delicious steaks (I mean, who DOESN'T like a good steak, amiright?). I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia (although I have lived all over the East Coast, as well as Texas!) and now call Lynchburg home. Something that you may not know about me is that I have a twin sister, as well as a little sister who was born on the same day as me (exactly eight years later-no joke!) My favorite passage of Scripture is definitely Psalm 103. If you haven't read this, you should. It's pretty great. Also, if you haven't learned this by now, EVERYTHING is my fault. Just wait. You'll see."

Field Commander-Christian Salyer

"Hi there! My name is Christian Salyer and I will be serving as field commander this fall for “The Spirit of the Mountain” Marching Band here at Liberty University. I will be a sophomore studying Music Education with clarinet as my primary instrument. This will be my second year in the Liberty University Marching Band as I had a blast being a part of the Clarinet section last year. Aside from marching band I have also been a part of the LU Wind Symphony as well as the Clarinet Ensemble.  Looking ahead toward this upcoming marching band season, I can say I am incredibly excited to see what God will do through the people He has brought here. Marching band is an awesome way to use the gifts God’s given us to show His love through music and performance, and I am so thankful that He has put me in “The Spirit of the Mountain.”  Outside of marching band I enjoy spending time with friends and family, playing baseball and basketball, quoting The Office, and going to Jimmy John’s to eat the best sandwiches in the world."

Back Field Commander-Andrew Jordan

"Hey y'all!  My name is Drew Jordan and I am so excited to be one of the field commanders for y'all this fall. This will be my second year with "The Spirit of the Mountain" and my eighth year in marching band all together. I am from a small town in the middle of nowhere called Brookneal, Virginia. I am a music education major, and I play French Horn. I love playing tennis, swimming, and chilling outside during the summer. I can't wait for the opportunity to meet all of y'all and to get to know you. I know we are going to have a great season and God is going to do great things."
