Touch Lives ...for two months each summer, students touch lives, form friendships, and improve their Spanish while ministering in Guatemala—serving in areas such as the following:

  • Orphanages
  • Construction
  • Homes for the elderly
  • Medical clinics
  • Nutrition centers
  • Schools
  • Church services

Students serve others in GuatemalaFirst Three Weeks: Partial Immersion—Primary Elements

Spanish Instruction

Students will enroll in six hours of Spanish 499. These credits will then be applied to wherever the student needs them in their Spanish major, minor, concentration, etc.

These classes will feature efforts toward developing fluency, with particular training in the Plan of Salvation, personal testimony, and other elements directly related to ministry in Guatemala and other Spanish-speaking countries.

    • In poor villages, while also sharing food and medicine
    • Painting homes in poor villages
    • Home construction in poor villages

Final Five Weeks: Total Immersion—Primary Elements

  1. Home stay with family who only speaks Spanish.
  2. Work and/or ministry designed to aid in fluency.
  3. After the first three weeks, students who are not ready to begin their home stays with Guatemalan families will be given intensive tutoring during the fourth week. The anticipation is that these students will be ready for home stays after the end of the fourth week.

Projected Dates and Cost

Dates: May 12 - June 6, 2019.

Tuition for six to twelve hours of Spanish credit: Contact Registrar's office for current cost.

Room and board plus travel to, within, and from Guatemala: $4,000.
