Biography
Dr. Gillen was born in Uniontown, PA. After living in Pennsylvania for 21 years, he has lived in four other states: Ohio, Texas, Florida, and Virginia. He spent four years studying topics in medical microbiology and physiology at Baylor College of Medicine. His favorite occupation is integrating biblical themes with biology. He has written three books on these creation topics: The Human Body: An Intelligent Design, and Body by Design: Fearfully & Wonderfully Made, and The Genesis of Germs: Plagues & Pestilences in a Fallen World.  His major research interests are 1) the origin of infectious disease, antibiotic resistance and the design of the immune system.  He also likes to discuss examples of interwoven complexity - evidence for the Master Craftsman weaving the human body together.  Dr. Gillen is co-authoring a new textbook for college biology majors - Biology: Revealing Design, Order and Complexity.  He came to LU in the summer of 2004 and lives in Forest, VA with his wife, Jayne, and Logan, their adorable sheltie.
