The Wiz: Dance and Vocal Auditions

Saturday, January 27 in Rehearsal Room 2 (Green Hall 1004)

10:00-10:45        Mover call (for anyone who does not have dance training)

11:00-11:45        Dance call (for those who have some dance training)

12:00-2:00          Open audition for vocalists (32 bars of a song, please bring sheet music, we’ll provide the accompanist. Headshot and resume are encouraged but not required.)

*students may dance only, sing only, or do both!

If you are singing, please bring sheet music with you, marked start and stop at the appropriate places.

Things You Need To Know About THE WIZ:

  • The Theatre Arts Department has a professional branch called Alluvion Stage Company, designed to bring in guest artists to work alongside our students in producing high-quality shows.
  • Our shows are open to all students and local artists!
  • We will be partnering with LU PRAISE, as well as bringing in guests to be part of the creative team, cast, crew, and orchestra!
  • These productions can count for a one-credit elective (THEA 300) or even CSER!
  • Rehearsals are in the evenings, and some Saturdays, starting in late February (not including Spring Break); conflicts can be worked around.
  • Show runs three weekends, from April 19 – May 5.
  • Roles are available for ensemble, supporting, and understudy to leads – and we’re also looking for a dog to play Toto!

Alluvion Auditions and Production Interviews

Auditions for ANASTASIA

Alluvion Stage Company is hosting in-person auditions, as well as accepting professional video submissions with headshot/resume attached. In-person auditions will be held February 19th & 20th, and video submissions will be accepted no later than February 16th.

Professional Video Submissions:

  • 32 bars of a dramatic ballad
  • 1-minute dramatic or comedic contemporary monologue
  • Completed audition form, headshot, and resume emailed to cnelson@liberty.edu by 5:00 p.m. EST on February

Liberty University Theatre Majors and Local Actors:

In-person auditions will be held on Monday, February 19th and Tuesday, February 20th from 7-10 p.m. in Rehearsal Room 1 (Green Hall 1008). Please email Robyn Austin at redevaul@liberty.edu to sign up for an audition time slot. Bring the completed audition form with you as well as your headshot and resume.

Audition Requirements:

  • 32 bars of a dramatic ballad (bring properly marked sheet music for the accompanist)
  • 1-minute dramatic or comedic contemporary monologue

You will be emailed if we need to see you for a callback on either Wednesday, February 21st or Saturday, February 24th. *Theatre majors are not required to audition for Alluvion shows.

Callbacks:

Dance, vocal, and reading callbacks for principles and ensemble will be on Wednesday, February 21st from 7–10 p.m. and/or Saturday, February 24th from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. in Rehearsal Room 1 (Green Hall 1008).

Casting:

  • Casting of leads is expected to be completed by the end of four-week (August 26 – Sept. 22) and five-week (August 19 – Sept. 22) contracts may be possible, depending on the role.
  • Final casting of the ensemble is expected to be completed by the end of March. Ensemble contracts will begin the week of August 12 – 16.

Theatre Arts Academic Requirements

  • All BA/BS Theatre Arts students are required to complete a production interview, with the option of an audition.
  • All Freshman and Sophomore BFA majors who have auditioned and been accepted into the BFA program are required to complete an academic audition and a production interview.
  • All Junior and Senior BFA majors who have auditioned and been accepted into the BFA program are required to complete an academic audition, with the option to Interview. Headshots and resumes are also required for auditions for all BFA’s.
  • Theatre minors and INDS in Fine Arts students are not required to complete an audition or production interview beyond the requirements of their DCP but are welcome to do so.
  • You must have at least a 2.0 GPA to be in a production.

Auditions for Spring 2024 Shows (please read entire page)

Auditions for the Spring 2024 shows will be held on November 6, 2023 from 6-10 p.m. in Rehearsal Room 1 Green Hall 1008.  Callbacks will be on November 7. Dance will be auditioned during callbacks. Callbacks will be posted outside of the Black Box Theatre. If you have any questions about the following information, please email redevaul@liberty.edu.

  • 30 Second Contemporary or Comedic Monologue. British accents are encouraged.
  • 16 Bars from any “sung-through” Broadway ballad. **Bring sheet music with you in a notebook, with starting and stopping points marked.

Production Interviews for Spring 2024 Shows

All BA/BS Theatre majors and Freshman and Sophomore accepted BFA students will have production interviews on November 6, from 6-10 p.m. in the Props & Craft Room (GH 1042).  You can just drop in from 6-10pm.

Freshman and Sophomore BFA students are required to also have a production interview, but all BFA students are encouraged to interview. Download and fill out the Production Interview form and return it via email to redevaul@liberty.edu by October 31, 2023.
