The Helms School of Government’s criminal justice program is one of the most popular majors at Liberty University. Currently, 454 students studying on campus have declared majors in criminal justice and 2,515 are earning their degrees online.
With the mission to produce action-oriented students grounded in a biblical worldview who will become highly qualified, Christ-centered leaders in their field, the criminal justice program was recently listed number one on Top Colleges Online’s "10 Top Colleges for Online Criminal Justice Degrees."
Stephen Parke, associate dean of the Helms School of Government, believes the criminal justice degree is highly desired by students and employers because of its versatility. Alumni of Liberty’s program have gone on to work at the local level as deputy sheriffs and police troopers, at the state level as parole and probation officers, and at the federal level as part of the Secret Service and Homeland Security.
While some students may be drawn to a degree in criminal justice due to television shows like COPS or NCIS, Parke says ultimately a profession in criminal justice is a calling for students to be salt and light in local, state, and federal positions.
Liberty’s program now offers the criminal justice degree with cognates available in the areas of business administration management, criminal psychology, forensics, homeland security, public administration, strategic intelligence, and youth corrections.
On the graduate level, Liberty University Online offers a Master of Science in Criminal Justice with a cognate in Public Administration. All courses are taught by faculty who possess not only outstanding academic credentials, but also extensive field experience.
As the program continues to grow, more Champions are being sent out into the criminal justice field empowered to impact our nation and change the world for Christ.
